The Programme for Rural Advancement Nationally (PRAN) was founded in 1981 by retired Director Amjad Khan Chowdhury and has grown to become one of the largest food and beverage brands in Bangladesh. PRAN pioneered agricultural enterprises in Bangladesh by providing guaranteed prices to farmers. PRAN Foods, a subsidiary of the PRANRFL group, produces a variety of agricultural products under the PRAN brand. PRAN established a subsidiary in the UAE in 2003.
After the Indian government lifted the ban on direct investment from Bangladesh in 2007, it announced plans to open a manufacturing facility in Tripura, India in 2008.By 2016, PRAN Group's exports had reached Taka 10 billion, making it the company's largest sales market in India, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Malaysia and Oman. In the same year, PRAN's sales exceeded $500 million. PRAN started exporting potatoes in March 2016.
In April 2016, PRAN began exporting cassava and sent its first shipment of $3 million to New Zealand. PRAN has 80,000 dollars. Direct employees and 200,000 indirect employees. PRAN exports its products to more than 118 countries worldwide.
PRAN started exporting by river from Bangladesh to India in March 2022.
