| The Abul Khair Group began in 1953 as a producer of hand-rolled cigarettes known as Beedi.
In 2009, Abul Khair Tobacco Company Limited gave away free cigarettes with every order. This was in violation of the Narcotics Control Act of 2005, which forbids tobacco product advertising and promotion.
On February 2, 2010, a mobile court punished Abul Khair Group for not identifying their milk products with a Maximum Retail Price, as required by Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution laws. After colliding with MV RAMSI off the coast of Kutubdia Lighthouse near the Port of Chittagong on February 16, 2011, two vessels owned by Abul Khair Group, MV Titu-22 and MV Titu-21, sank. They had a total of 26 crew members, seven of them perished at sea. On the banks of Shitalakkhya in Munshiganj District, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority began eviction proceedings against Shah Cement facility in May 2012.They were attempting to dismantle two jetties that they said had been constructed illegally. In July 2015, they applied to the Board of Investment for approval to obtain a loan from a foreign bank in order to expand their re-rolling plant in Sitakunda. Three directors of the company were questioned by the Anti-Corruption Commission in January 2018 over charges of loan embezzlement and tax evasion.The Abul Khair Group is the owner of In Bangladesh, Shah Cement had the biggest market share in 2019. The plant was licensed to produce 25 megawatts, but it was illegally producing 75 megawatts. On November 11, 2020, Khadiza Bhuiyan of the Dhaka Court ruled in favor of the defendant, and Hasan stated that he intends to appeal the decision. During the COVID-19 epidemic in Bangladesh in June 2020, Abul Khair Group provided free oxygen to hospitals in Chittagong from their steel facility, which also featured an industrial oxygen-producing unit. Chattogram Field Hospital, Chittagong General Hospital, and the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases were among the hospitals that received oxygen.
